WOLVES, KNIGHTS WIN CAMP TITLES

When the draft was finished, it was figured that the Knights would be the team to beat in the Junior Division. However, their opponent was a bit of a surprise. Many of the coaches had the Cobras or even the Kings in the finals. However it was the Eagles who made another run at the finals, making them the only team to appear in the finals 4 straight times. In the Major Division, only the Panthers (now Bears) have even appeared 3 times straight. The Eagles were praying for soccer to be chosen given that Jose Posadas woke up out of his funk and started scoring again. It was not to be; the sport was baseball. Even still the Eagles took an early lead and led through the top of the 3rd inning until Kailan Chang took over and carried the team on his back as he has done much of the camp season. Making stellar play after play, it came down to the final 3 outs and the Eagles within 4 of tying the game, which we know, is very easy for the Eagles to accomplish considering they are the only team in history to score 24 runs in the final inning to win a playoff game. However, the Knights stepped up their defense, recorded 3 straight outs and captured their first title.

The other championship game between the Crush and Wolves was not so definitive. The Crush and Wolves were so evenly matched up that their first game went to a shootout when neither team could score on Sexton for the Crush nor Bryant for the Wolves. However, it would be the Crush goalie Jordan Sexton who would give up a goal in the shootout. Bryant would stand tall and that would allow the Wolves to force the ultimate game. In that game, the Wolves would strike on Colton Sloat’s goal which gave the Wolves all the offense they would need. That goal seemed to take the wind out of the Crush’s sails and present the Wolves and Coach Travis Bradbury their very first title as the Wolves and the second in the franchise’s history (Knights).

After the awards ceremony, many players and coaches were honored as the Hall of Fame class of 2011. Those honorees include Cruz Banuelos, Colton Sloat, Joel Quiros, Coaches Gloria Chen, Dominic Simons, William Erkkila, and Gavin Mitchell. Congrats to each of our inductees this year!

This camp again has been an incredible success. As far as I can remember, this camp has been one of ups and downs but mostly ups. This year more than ever, more kids accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior, kids treated each other with respect and sportsmanship and life long bonds were created. It has been an ultimate privilege serving you guys this year. God bless you and see ya next year! Remember God loves you and so do we!
